Whilst we are bound to be biassed (as highly regulated breeders of long established Pedigree breeds), the facts are simple. If you cross two different breeds, the resulting progeny (however useful, cute or robust they may be) are definitively mongrels. Strangely, that particular terminology has been replaced by so called designer breed names, such as 'Sprocker', 'Labradoodle', 'Jackapoo' and 'Cheagle', and the price tag has changed, too, more than anybody seems to realise.
These 'designer breeds' now change hands for between 125% and 200% of the value of their Pedigree procreators. That is the equivalent of paying £3,000 for a bona fide used Ford Mondeo, by comparison to, say, £5,000 for a 'cut and shut' Peugeot! Any savvy car buyer wouldn't, and it deludes us why any dog buyer would. If there was a saving, it would make more sense, but to pay a premium seems ludicrous.
Worse still, these 'designer breeders' have had the audacity to create registers to legitimise their antics, using categorisations like F1 and F2, in an attempt to emulate the credibility provided for over a century by The Kennel Club.
Just mongrels?!
Back in the day, if you crossed a Jack Russell with a Pug, or a Springer with a Cocker, or even a Poodle with a Labrador, the result was the same; a mongrel. By definition, that was, and still is, absolutely correct. What has changed?
Personally, if we are spending a four figure sum (which the majority of dogs now command), we want some assurance that; the dam and sire are as suggested, the dog has been health screened, the union is legitimate and, documentation will be provided to certify all of that.
We have gone to a great deal of time and expense to be able to demonstrate our Credentials, and those that choose to join the Brynovation family benefit from that. We operate well within the confines of all legal, regulatory and statutory requirements, including taxation disclosure (the latter being a factor in the latest licensing legislation, perhaps?!).
The implementation of The Animal Welfare (Licensing Of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 over the coming months and years will be interesting to watch but, if set about as legally intended, will radically reform the manner in which about one million dogs are bought and sold, every year, in the UK.
When it is your turn again, think twice about that 'cut and shut', and give proper consideration to the one owner from new, full service history cracker, that comes with a lifetime guarantee! Oddly, it will probably cost you a lot less, both to buy and to keep.
